Free like a birdy

It’s been a while! Do you remember the 50days-til-graduation- calendar post?
I GRADUATED, F*ck yay! Free like a bird now. Below a little preview. As a result of  5 months research I made some photos  and about 8 short films. I wonder if you can tell what it’s about.

Exactly one year ago I was working in L.A. during my internship at Petrovsky & Ramone.  This was probably my best week ever and of course I captured plenty of memories, but guess what… my hard disk crashed, and my back ups too.
Today I was looking for some old pics and guess again… I FOUND SOME L.A. PHOTO’S!  It’s not a lot but at least  it’s something. Check it outttt.

#MISSION 50 days to finish school

As some of you may know I have delayed my graduation by one semester.
8 months ago I decided to put school on pause because I had a lot of opportunities to develop my photography skills, gain professional experience and extend my network. So I thought it would be better for me to focus on that. Of course, awesome, new contacts, exposure etcetera, but WHAT was I thinking?

Now, 8 months later, I face even more non school related opportunities than before, and that with only 50 days left to graduate!  If I tell you what projects I am working on you will probably say, Have YOu LoSt  Yo MIND?!

Well, yes. I have lost my mind. And I’m loosing a lot of money too if I don’t graduate.  So I need all the luck and support in the world right now. But, I can do this, can’t I?

It can’t go wrong with this awesome calendar, hahaha.

Mucho Love,

Sharon

& shout out to the lovely Toyah Thunder for editing my text :D My writing skills suck big time.

F L O P S H O P

About two months ago I had a little chat with my friend Lune Kuipers , who is a really talented stylist. She told me about a photoshoot she  worked on for a school project and that Topman by TopShop  used one of the photos to make a print for a T-shirt, and sold it , without credits. The people who were responsible for the design probably found the picture on a blog. Anyway, the photographer did not know anything about it.

My first thought was “oh, that’s cool, to have your photo on a Topman shirt..”, but second: “What the F.! What happened to copyright and stuff?”

So about a week ago, I saw this facebook post of a friend, Estrella,  who is also the model on the lovely picture in question (see pic above). She posted something titled ‘Flopshop’, it caught my attention. It was about the photo which has been used by Topshop. The photographer Landa Penders , started this project. Her words below:

FLOPSHOP stands for all the fashion chains that design, produce and sell their fashion without passion. It is time for originality, quality and honesty.
With the FLOPSHOP project I want to raise awareness about the over consuming and producing of clothes in an impassionate way. We cannot allow the stealing of designs and screwing of the independent designer. Moreover, we’re standing at the beginning of a period where people want to go back to the classics, where people will not be satisfied with mass production anymore. People want original, authentic pieces for their money. The small independent designer can rise and will show up more on the streets again, while the fashion chains try to correspond with that way of working, instead of just taking it and copying it.”

I must say I don’t fully agree with her words about people wanting original and authentic pieces for their money. Most people (especially people who shop mass products ) just don’t give a shit about what’s on a T-shirt or who made it. If it’s a cool picture, it’s just a cool picture, and they buy it, cause its cheap. Sad, but true. The fact that she wants to create awareness on this subject is more realistic. I know how it feels when someone uses a picture without giving any credits for the one who has made it…

Everyone should know, especially and OF COURSE  the big brands, stealing pictures and using it for commercial purposes IS NOT COOL!
