‘Not Quite Open for Business’

Deitch gallery is closing this summer, but a new venture with a similar menu of artists is being opened by former Deitch directors Kathy Grayson and Meghan Coleman. The name of the gallery is ‘The Hole’ and tomorrow’s opening exhibition is titled ‘Not Quite Open for Business’ – a concept inspired by a real struggle to get everything together in time for the opening, resulting in a showcase of unfinished art and a pending gallery. The exhibition is running from 6-9pm on 104 Greene Street, SOHO. A little taste of their website

wooster street

Today was one of those ‘tanktop in sun/fleece in shade’ days. A typical spring day in New York: rain in the morning, sun at noon, strong random winds at all times.

Started the day in Queens, crew breakfast and a quick chill in A’s crib..

Hit up the drawing center on Wooster street, where across from each other were exhibitions of Leon Golub and Dorothea Tanning. Opposite as can be:

Golub’s drawings emphasized erotic impressions and dark virtues of sexualized females, skeletons, and angry dogs.  Impressive and repulsive at the same time..

Dorothea Tanning is a well known American painter, sculptor, set and costume designer, and writer (her peoms have been feautured in ‘the New Yorker’). The exhibition included mostly her costume drawings  for various ballet productions. Among them a collaboration with George Balanchine (notably for ‘the sleepwalker’). Her designs are soft and feminine yet contain subtle distortions or edgy head masks that give them a surreal distinction.

Did some more walking..

Wooster, Broome, Mulberry, Spring; not a dull moment.

So it’s only right that we ended up at our brunch spot ‘L’orange bleu’ – a delicious Moroccan-french restaurant. A call for salads and bellinis..  followed up with some couscous and garlic greens (very yummy!!)

SoHo responsible for yet another chill saturday..

Sunday Glimpse

Spent a chill sunday with the ladies – it almost felt as if we were tourists in our own city. All around lights, camera, action..

Started the day with a B-ball game at Madison Square Garden – watched the Knicks (my first time) give it up in the last minute. They lost by 4 points ;-(… no surprise there unfortunately.

Continued to Soho – checked out all the beautiful ladies in their spring fashion, ran into my second favorite political satirist, Jon Stewart, and asked him to pose in a picture with us (he’s just as he seems)…really should’ve asked him where Colbert is.. ;-)

but I think the icing on the cake (no pun int.) were these DELICIOUS cupcakes we got from ‘Baked by Melissa’  down on spring street..we bought 12 of them (they’re small) and devoured them, standing up, in less time then it took us to buy them!! or as my girl said once we finished: “7000 calories and 3 minutes later”…

Next, we went to see what remained  of Mr. Brainwash’s ‘Icon’ exhibit at the opera gallery..looks like he sold very well at the opening.

At the end of the day we felt tired and silly and for no good reason strolled into the Hollister cave to poke fun at the half-naked model wannabees who ask you in this laid back surfer dude way “what’s up”  like they really wanna know…so we played along, laughed a little…then walked out half nauseous.

Spring = Long walks = Life is Beautiful
