William Eadon

Although originally from Ohio, artist William Eadon is now based out of my own backyard, lovely Williamsburg. With a style that is both whimsical and a bit chaotic he fits right in. That said, some of his photographs are pretty incredible. And speaking of style, when asked who his style icon is his answer was, “I like looking at children.  They have style.  Style always comes from within.” Aw. Check out more of his work  here.

AT ZEB

YouTube Preview Image

This past Saturday, over at Zebulon, our dear buddy celebrated his birthday. It was the sort of night that could have easily gone wrong considering the non-stop torrential rain and wind gusts – but instead became super successful, maybe even thanks to it. I’m talking about an indoor atmosphere filled with rebellious hair and glistening skin – a place filled with humid air and the energy of dancing souls, all enamored by the  sounds of Voodoofunk, aka Frank Gossner; a DJ best described as a record explorer and avid collector, who through his years of travels has dug up records of long gone-by West African cultures, which he has brought back to share with us youngens. The variety of genres, spanning from Afrobeat, Soul-Funk, to Nigerian disco and Highlife, easily seduces even the most stubborn hips.  I’ve never seen the place so lively! Big up DJ Frank.

Q train to Brighton

It’s a staple of New York. A place full of character and energy. It holds the largest Russian community in the U.S – but many many more nationalities that add a flavor and uniqueness to this corner of Brooklyn. A lot of people (specifically Manhattaners) hold their nose up at this place because they picture the Coney Island of ‘Requiem for a Dream’ full of druggies and broken glass… but they’re missing out in my opinion. So the water isn’t blue and the sand isn’t pure but what beach around here is??  Worth going for are the subcultures that outline a raw new york atmosphere. A lively and real part of brooklyn that is truly enjoyable..

27 miles according to Ben

Starting point: 3pm. Upper West Side. 88 degrees, sunny skies. Destination: unknown spot in Brooklyn.
Made our way down the Hudson River; biked through Midtown West, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Soho, Tribecca, Financial district , over Brooklyn Bridge into DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Little Jerusalem finally ending up in Williamsburg around 6pm…..stopped for food and alcohol…and rode all the way back to where we came from. 11pm. 8 hour cycle tour = asses hard like rocks and legs super sore..but we did it! And though this was a big crew accomplishment by the time we reached our little bar on the upper west side, we were all way too exhausted to have another drink….passing out was on everyone’s mind, and that’s how it went. Big up my friends, you were all amazing!
