Niagara Whirlpool
The drive there from NY: about 12 hours. And while I was heading up north to cold Canada, NYC was getting snowed in. A big surprise.
Final destination: a block filled with houses that resemble castles – 5 min. from the downtown area — they were nice but the TREES were gorgeous!
Food: for the first time in my life I ate and loved MUSHROOMS (not the poisonous ones). Oliver and Bonacini is the name of the place and the food is damn delicious.
The club: Roosevelt Room, charming SPACE but for all the fuss the DJ really didn’t impress. All in all I absolutely loved Toronto, and despite having spent only two short days there, this beautiful city is going on my new list of ‘Cities I’d Live In’.

This morning, as I rode the subway to work getting ready for my usual engagements (book and ipod), a dullness, similar to the effect of weed (on me at least), engulfed my brain. It happens quite often in the morning. I center my attention around whimsical thoughts as I decide to stare at commuters.
The couple to the side of me was talking about conspiracy. I overheard him say “Washington was not the first president of the United States, it was a black man before him”. The 4 train filled up quickly but the voices around me remained conspicuous because the majority was busy on their Apple’s . I checked out the lady in front of me who was chatting with the full-figured man by her side.
She struck me as odd and then as lovely. Her appeal was reminiscent of tofu – bland to most, delightful to few. As a tofu enthusiast I know that a skillful blend of ingredients is required for it to taste good (which I won’t discuss, for one because I don’t know how to cook). Likewise a special mix of traits accounted for this lady’s attractiveness – I could not understand a word she was saying (could it be Dutch?) but was instantly enchanted by her potent voice and physical mannerism – an alluring sautee of hand movement (only one) and eye- mouth coordination similar in appeal to Julia Robert’s laugh or Kristen Stewart’s eerie eyed whisper talk – paradoxical because it’s so modestly exaggerated.
Her man friend looked enthusiastic and kept patting her on the back, encouraging her and reminding me of childhood’s ‘Pull-string dolls’. It was this thought that made me lose interest in the Europeans as I fell back on nostalgia.

Satire is a powerful tool in our culture. Jon Stewart should know. He’s been extremely successful in utilizing it to deliver a comic cynicism that affects and inspires the 20-somethings in this country. His audience – TV-watchers, liberals of some sort who are sick of Limbaugh-type-conservatives pissing on truth in the name of dogma, may or may not be politically active – but now they have a chance to stand up for what they find hysterically maddening. Mr. Stewart is pushing to get his masses of the couch to come to a ”Rally to Restore Sanity“ in Washington D.C. on October 30th. His invitation cites “Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement.” Alongside, faux arch nemesis Colbert will be holding his own ‘March to keep Fear alive“. The two hope to attract a turnout that will put Glenn Beck’s attempt ’Restore Honor’ to shame. I hope so myself. To join the indoor masses on Oct. 30th and for more information go here.
