GINKGOA

On a spontaneous whim, my girl and I ended up at Zebulon lounge last night.  Neither of us knew of the performing band Ginkgoa and had no idea what to expect.  The good thing about spontaneous whims is that you don’t have high expectations and so when something great comes along you’re really blown away. Let’s just say we both ended up in love, *Paris style*, with the whole show/music – a mash up of jazz and bossa nova style with strong Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and Billy Holiday influences.  Of course it didn’t hurt that their lead singer was this beautiful,  charming, tap dancing girl who has a voice to melt you. Anyway, they’re performing again this Thursday at Ella Lounge in the village. Highly recommended..

Art Bar

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Art Bar. At first glance it seems like a regular small west village bar, but walk past the first layout into the back room and you find yourself in a dimly-lit lounge filled with cozy couches, century old drapes, and paintings that will catch your eye but do not overwhelm. The music is not the greatest (though there is a juke box) ..and you will see couples sucking face in the back, but the overall atmosphere is very laid back and enjoyable.  The drinks are reasonably priced – and the food is with good value.  Definitely a perfect spot to meet your friends, or a date for a chill after-work hangout. Located on 52 eighth. avenue.

Deity

I know I’ve been mentioning Brooklyn a lot lately….I don’t know what it is but I’m just in that sort of mood, and I’m also thinking of moving there.  With this in mind, I’d like to recommend a club called ‘Deity‘.

This spot used to be a synagogue and was turned into a classy all-in-one party house. What makes it better than the typical Manhattan club is that it’s less pretentious and not as stuffy. Upstairs they offer dinner and a unique selection of cocktails, then hit the downstairs where there’s non-stop dancing going on,  dope music (DJ dummy was there last time), and an overall friendly, loose, and outgoing atmosphere.

It’s located on 368 Atlantic Avenue.
