This is what I have in mind when I think of an *in-home* host outfit. The bottom two would be perfect… along with the delightful poses of course. (Vintage Issey Miyake)

Is style ever a statement of individualism or is it always an extraction of a larger group-based contagion? Reduce any social group to appearances and most of the time (still working on the margin of error) it is easy to label the hipster, skater, prep, nerd, hick or uptown guy based on dress-code alone. Of course you will always be left guessing with the outliers; those in odd fashion, like my aunt’s friend who owns a wholly antique wardrobe made of fripperies from the 1800’s, or the stylistically ambiguous dressers who mix hipster and business with no shame. Where do they fall? certainly not in the art project of Rotterdam based photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek who, working together since 1994, have systematically documented numerous identities. The project, named “Exactitudes” aka a “contraction of exact and attitude”, while trying to stay true to reality has a more artistic and orchestrated approach, so that the subjects had to observe a strict dress-code and pose to fit into their grid. Other than that it’s pretty fascinating to see how contagious fashion is amongst groups. Visit their website to see this impressive collection. Pay attention to their labels.

My girl put me on to this awesome website called kickstarter.com. It’s a funding platform for creative projects – once a goal is decided on, the project establishes a time period in which it will try to raise necessary funds. If you like what you see you can donate money to help with the project and in return will receive benefits, products, or experiences, depending on the amount donated. The catch is ‘no money unless the goal is reached’. If the goal isn’t reached by the deadline the money goes back to the investors. This is supposed to motivate the investors and the artists to achieve the desired result. Projects range and include films, fashion, music, illustrations, writing etc. The point is to help out those you believe in and so become part of the process. So if you want to contribute or have an amazing project that is in need of more funds, this is your chance.

Saw a familiar print on a t-shirt in CTRL, a small Pop-Up shop in Berlin. After checking out some of his other work it’s clear that Brooklyn based illustrator, Jesse Auersalo found his niche using surreal and gloomy undertones to create bizzare portraits of distorted characters. I especially like that despite the eeriness and obscurity of the subjects they still seem so polished and clean. It makes his work intriguing yet somewhat unavailable. Check it out.
