William Eadon

Although originally from Ohio, artist William Eadon is now based out of my own backyard, lovely Williamsburg. With a style that is both whimsical and a bit chaotic he fits right in. That said, some of his photographs are pretty incredible. And speaking of style, when asked who his style icon is his answer was, “I like looking at children.  They have style.  Style always comes from within.” Aw. Check out more of his work  here.

GINKGOA

On a spontaneous whim, my girl and I ended up at Zebulon lounge last night.  Neither of us knew of the performing band Ginkgoa and had no idea what to expect.  The good thing about spontaneous whims is that you don’t have high expectations and so when something great comes along you’re really blown away. Let’s just say we both ended up in love, *Paris style*, with the whole show/music – a mash up of jazz and bossa nova style with strong Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and Billy Holiday influences.  Of course it didn’t hurt that their lead singer was this beautiful,  charming, tap dancing girl who has a voice to melt you. Anyway, they’re performing again this Thursday at Ella Lounge in the village. Highly recommended..

Jesse Auersalo

Saw a familiar print on a t-shirt in CTRL, a small Pop-Up shop in Berlin. After checking out some of his other work it’s clear that Brooklyn based illustrator, Jesse Auersalo found his niche using surreal and gloomy undertones to create bizzare portraits of distorted characters. I especially like that despite the eeriness and obscurity of the subjects they still seem so polished and clean. It makes his work intriguing yet somewhat unavailable. Check it out.

27 miles according to Ben

Starting point: 3pm. Upper West Side. 88 degrees, sunny skies. Destination: unknown spot in Brooklyn.
Made our way down the Hudson River; biked through Midtown West, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Soho, Tribecca, Financial district , over Brooklyn Bridge into DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Little Jerusalem finally ending up in Williamsburg around 6pm…..stopped for food and alcohol…and rode all the way back to where we came from. 11pm. 8 hour cycle tour = asses hard like rocks and legs super sore..but we did it! And though this was a big crew accomplishment by the time we reached our little bar on the upper west side, we were all way too exhausted to have another drink….passing out was on everyone’s mind, and that’s how it went. Big up my friends, you were all amazing!

Deity

I know I’ve been mentioning Brooklyn a lot lately….I don’t know what it is but I’m just in that sort of mood, and I’m also thinking of moving there.  With this in mind, I’d like to recommend a club called ‘Deity‘.

This spot used to be a synagogue and was turned into a classy all-in-one party house. What makes it better than the typical Manhattan club is that it’s less pretentious and not as stuffy. Upstairs they offer dinner and a unique selection of cocktails, then hit the downstairs where there’s non-stop dancing going on,  dope music (DJ dummy was there last time), and an overall friendly, loose, and outgoing atmosphere.

It’s located on 368 Atlantic Avenue.
