The Human Design System.

By now its not a secret where my roots lay. Growing up on Paradise Island, was surely something different to any random childhood in the prairie. Bushes were my jungle, dust was the general color of the landscape when I played in the campo at 37° in the shade.

We didn’t have a pool when I was little. But when we were lucky, we could walk down the terraces, to our neighbor, play with his kid & splash around till the sun would go down behind the mountain. I grew up there, many memories – like learning how to dive – are linked to this place. And to this family.

He was a special man. He almost always wore black, he was starting to get white hair which he would cover under his trademark baseball hat. Sometimes, he would take out his guitar and smile while singing for us. As I grew older, I was allowed to discover more on why people were treating him with respect, as someone special.

Not many of you will accept this next part. Your conditioning to our system is a lock keeping you away from accepting something which you aren’t familiar with. I grew up in an environment in which the discovery and awareness of the self was the daily menu. Something you also call ‘esoteric bullshit’. Yeah. Tarot, meditation, yoga, books, sessions, encounters, guru’s and all that jazz. It took me a very long time to find peace with this part of my background. I always started to roll my eyes, think superficially and not believe or trust in what my family and second families used to tell me. The more I grow, the more I want to understand and the more I can deal with what I was born into.

Ra Uru Hu, was a special man. He grew up in Montreal, then owned a media company. He was a normal guy, from a normal & good household, he went to university. In 1983 he disappeared, leaving everything behind, and settled in Ibiza. He became our local school teacher, lived in a tree, and discovered a whole different scene- ever heard of hippies?!

On January 3rd, 1987, he was taught the now called “Human Design System” by a ‘voice’. He worked on that in trance for 8 days & nights, setting up the base of this complex new kind of self-discovery. “It is not built on belief or faith but is a logical, empirical system which offers you the opportunity to experiment with its mechanics and find out for yourself if it works for you”.

I never quite understood how it works (I might get into it soon), but still I always found it fascinating. Of course I have a chart of my own in some drawer at my mums, and still now the children born on the island are destined with a fresh chart as soon as the data is collected.

On Saturday, March 12th, Ra passed away. He left us all shocked- which he famous for.

It doesn’t mean anything that I wasn’t in contact with him or his family for years. I still feel the same way about him, when I think about him, like I used to back when I was 9, running down to his house. I still feel sad that he is now “gone”, although he is leaving so much of everything behind.

I invite you to step out of your comfort zone. Maybe not now, but maybe someday when you least expect it. When you want to understand yourself a little bit more, you’ll remember this post about a childhood story, and about a man that changed a small part of this world.

We will miss you, Ra.

Amnesia 1989.

For those who have never been to the magic island, Amnesia is still a running club. Where now a roof closes the masses of up to 5000 ppl per night, like animals in cage, wasted of their faces in dark rooms… back then it was about fun, love, unity and all those principles my parents lived up to in sunshine land. Still wasted though, of course. I was three, and this is where I come from.

The End of an Era.

Today my dad is closing down his business for good.

25 years ago, he opened the doors of Eivissa Communication Organization aka E.C.O, providing the good old hippies a place to receive their post mail, make phone calls or receive faxes. Expanding it with jewellery, home-ware, organic foods and “everything-else-you-can-possibly-need” he added an Internet Cafe many years ago, which was run by my mum. All in all it surely was one of the northern hippie community centre points.

Today is a sad, melancholic & nostalgic day for the Spiegel-Fateh family. Many memories arising… good ones, fights, drama’s, village gossips, birthdays, children playing in the garden, fresh fruit juices, the freakin heat under that winter-garden-like-ceiling, make ups & brake ups, laughs… running through my head. In someway its impossible for me to imagine my family life without this place. And although Dad is moving upstairs to continue with Real Estate, this surely is an end of an era.

Thank you Daddy Cool, Thank you Ma, Thank you E.C.O.
