Stefan Strumbel Werkschau Berlin

Stefan Strumbel is definitely one of my favorite german artists.  If you’re in Berlin you should swing by the Circle Culture Gallery Pop Up at Alte Münze before the 10th of March and check out his very thought provoking exhibition.

All confessions made under the influence of champaign and pink neon lights are invalid by the way…

City Leaks Festival Cologne

From the 5.9.2011 until the 25.9.2011, some of the best street artists are painting walls all over the city cologne. If you get the chance, swing by and check out the artists at work! I just came back from Cologne and am kinda sad that I missed that, but however, the art will remain and you will find BLU, Faith47, Herakut, Sam3, Stefan Strumbel, Van Ray, Pau, Roa and many more all over the city very soon. Big up to Cologne for that major upgrade, lookswise.

About City Leaks Festival:
“The festival name CityLeaks refers to the philosophy of not-keeping-quiet. It expresses the inability to censor art. Due to its exposure in public places, Street art is accessible to everybody, yet at the same time vulnerable. The objective of the CityLeaks Festival 2011 is to increase society´s awareness of Street art. (…)The main focus of international art will be placed on Cologne when the big names of this recent form of modern art join forces in Cologne for the first time and realise their art work at the Cityleaks 01 festival. In comparison to Berlin or other large cities, Cologne has numerous unused areas of industrial wasteland. They are not being used to their full potential. On the one hand, the architecture of the city is considerably horrible; on the other hand, there are high cultural expectations. Our festival does not want public walls to be taken over for commercial or publicity reasons. Instead, we want to save them for art” quoted by Iren Tonoian, CityLeaks 01 Organiser.

“There is a Chinese saying: when the walls are white, people have nothing to talk about.”

Check out the video of my favourite Artists Herakut painting their wall in cologne after the click. Read more »

Video: The Burn Units – ALIVE.

“This planet is alive. If only we could know what it knows, see what it sees. Sometimes you feel like it’s trying to tell you something, showing you where to look, how to see. Lighting up the darkness ahead, illuminating your soul. The forces around us, are also the forces inside us. We cannot become as powerful as nature, until we become part of it.”

‘Influencers’ Short Film (full version)

While I was in New York, I saw the trailer of this short film by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson around Influncers and how and why influence is created.Nuw here’s the full short film. It’s weird…the topic seemed to be  on everyones mind in NYC. I went to two creative conferences or mindsharings that dealt with the concept of influence and ‘Influencers’ and found it very interesting…how is influence created, by who and why by those people ? Even if I think that being an Influencer is nothing that you can learn, become or plan it was quite interesting to think through the concept.

About “Influencers” :
“The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach…the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives.”http://www.vimeo.com/16430345

Influencers: Jeff Staple (Staple Design), Rob Stone (Cornerstone), Jon Cohen (Cornerstone), Dao-Yi Chow (Public School NYC), Damon Crepin-Burr (FullSix NY), Josh Peskowitz (Fashion Editor), Deirdre Maloney (BPMW), David Gensler (The KDU), Sky Gellatly (Team Epiphany)

Also interesting : Influencer10 Conference

I <3 that they used a track from ‘love jones’ in the film btw. It#s called ‘In a sentimental mood’ , beautiful track. That movie is haunting me. For real!  New York I miss you.

New piece by Jose Parla

I forgot to show you this! Right at the beginning of my New York trip a freind took me to the first family and friends first viewing of Jose Parla’s newest artwork in Brooklyn, where he created it. It is a 65ft long stunningly beautiful art piece. It was so fascinating to discover new details in it over and over again and see how writings, scripts can melt into something completely new, that gives you a whole nother feeling. It will be exhibited in Toronto.
