This is what we cant get enough of. Finding a new brand out there, loving the collection, the loobook and then read their philosophy and love it even more. This is the case with the Australian denim label Billycock Denim & Co. Yes, Billy as in Billy and …, well you know what we mean.

The boys Jeremy Kinstlinger & Chain Goldstein created their brand as a “sleek alternative to the plethora of mass-produced denim labels which have sprung up over the years.” Each pair of jeans are individually handmade in Australia using only the finest and most artisanal denims straight “from their boys in Japan”. That of course also means that each piece is unique, since from the washing until the tailoring the craft is a complete individual creation. There we go with wearing something really NOBODY else would have. As they say: “The look and feel of each Billycock piece is as individual as a pair of tits.”

With this focus and through special experiments, collaborations and mostly ignoring all the conventional rules of the status quo, they want to reinvent the notion of a fashion brand from the beginning to the end. Just like dressing the boys from “How to do it in America” throughout.

The good thing about the northern and southern hemisphere, climate differences and time travelling, isn’t only that you can chase the sun forever, but also that Australia’s Autumn/Winter collections are perfect in-between-weather styles for us European ladies over here.

Stolen Girlfriends Club’s latest “waterfall” inspired collection, carries prints of the waters reflection showing off different shapes each time you look at it. Silks in orange & poppy are the highlights of this years SGC trends, shaping up an ultra-feminine silhouette which is becoming more & more sophisticated.

Here is the first preview of the Australian swimwear brand We Are Handsome’s newest collection entitled “The Memoirs”.

Masterminds Indhrea Chagoury and Jeremy Sommers are preparing their followers for the upcoming Australian winter, introducing both leggings and mini dresses, covered with their trademark prints. Horses, wolfs and helium balloons are the first designs released.

Die beiden Schwestern Isabella und Elisabeth gründeten zusammen das Label Spell Designs. Für beide war klar, dass sie ihre Kindheitsträume wahr machen wollten und die kreative Begabung, die sie von ihrer Familie geerbt hatten, weiterzuführen. Ihr Vater verarbeitete Leder und die Mutter war Töpferin, webte bunte Fäden am Webstuhl und verbrachte viel Zeit damit, die Kreativität ihrer Töchter zu fördern. All diese Einflüsse kamen den Schwestern später bei der Gründung ihres Labels „Spell Design“ zu Gute.

Sie designen und erstellen Schmuck und Accessoires, modische Kleider, sowie Schuhe und kombinierten all dies mit Federn, Leder oder wunderschönen türkisen Steinen. Sie konnten sogar ihre erste eigene Boutique in Byron Bay eröffnen die sich liebevoll „Spell – The Gypsy Collective“ nennt und ein kleines Zigeuner Wunderland ist, inspiriert von den Ureinwohnern Amerikas. Neben ihren eigenen Kollektionen und dem sorgfältig verarbeiteten Schmuck, findet man in der Boutique auch einige spezielle Vintage-Stücke.

To celebrate the Centenary of the  International Women’s Day on March 8th around the globe, Australian film maker Phoebe Hartley has launched a new series of web documentaries entitled Extraodinary.

It comprises of eight episodes, each of them dedicated to a very special lady, and seeks to contribute to the recognition of their great achievements.

The first part launched on March 16th, together with the promise to keep us updated for the coming ones!

Schon klar, in Berlin steht gerade alles unter dem Stern der Berlinale, aber das heißt nicht, dass man nicht mal über den Tellerrand gucken kann. Zum Beispiel nach Australien, dort findet Tropfest statt, das weltweit größte Kurzfilmfestival.

Und dass sich in Kurzfilmen und kleineren Produktionen meist die spannendsten Nachwuchstalente verstecken, ist eigentlich kein Geheimnis mehr. Jetzt wurden 15 der 16 nominierten Kurzfilme vorgestellt, inklusive Trailer & die Anwärter auf den Tropfest-Preis.

Es würde uns nicht wundern, wenn das Lieblingsbuch der australischen Künstlerin Rose Skinner ihrerzeit ‘Alice im Wunderland’ gewesen ist. Die Installationen sind dermaßen bunt, skurril, voller Gerüche, Geräusche und von so überbordender Detailliertheit, dass man sich bei der Betrachtung wie ein Kind im Süßigkeitenladen vorkommt und das Auge unwillkürlich nach vertrauten Gestalten wie dem verrückten Hutmacher sucht.

Australier und Labels from Down Under werden die neuen Fashion-Wunderkinder! Das glauben wir ja schon seit längerem; so bestätigt unsere Vorahnung das neue One Teaspoon-Lookbook ziemlich deutlich, dass die Wunderkinder, gerne einen Schritt vorraus gehen!

Neben weichen Stricksachen haben One Teaspoon keine Angst, uns in riesige Oversized-Hemden zu hüllen und dabei (ganz ungewohnt) auf den beliebten Kontrast-Look zu verzichten, indem sie dazu keine Leggins, sondern ebenso weit geschnittene Schlag- und Marene-Jeans kombinieren. Zwischendurch blitzt es zwischen den eher in Naturtönen gehaltenen Sachen manchmal neon-pink auf.

Dass der Look funktioniert, sieht man an Model-Shootingstar Bambi Northwood Blyth, aber der kaufen wir ja derzeit sowieso jedes Styling ab, einfach, weil sie immer so verdammt toll aussieht! Selbst mit blaßrosa Pastell-Lippenstift!

Weshalb reden eigentlich immer alle von Mailand, Paris, New York und London, wenn es um Fashion geht? Fast schon wöchentlich stellen wir Euch die coolsten Labels und Designer vor, die mit schöner Regelmäßigkeit von Down Under, respektive aus Neuseeland sind und ganz offensichtlich wissen, wie Fashion funktioniert! Um diese Behauptung zu untermauern, kommt hier gleich das nächste Label fantastique: BLAK macht zwei Linien, einmal genannt ‘Luxe’ und einmal so genannte ‘Basics’, wobei wir große Probleme damit haben, den Unterschied festzustellen. Die Basics stehen den Luxus-Sachen in nix nach und das Bedürfnis, sich shoppingmäßig mal in Australien auszutoben, wächst unaufhaltsam…

In der Riege der neuen und sehr hippen jungen australischen Fashiondesigner muss man Jessie Hill ganz oben mit auf der Liste packen. Die Mode von Jessie Hill ist nicht nur sehr tragbar. Hill meint nicht, sie müsse das Rad neu erfinen, aber sie hat einen besonders feinen Sinn für die Strömungen von Trends, es ist also bei ihr eher ein gut überlegtes “Weniger ist mehr”, das ihre Sachen schlicht schön macht, wobei sie an liebevollen Details, wie etwa coole Cutouts nicht spart.

Dies macht ihre Mode dann plötzlich unerwartet sexy, wie Frauen eben auch manchmal sind, und man spürt: da weiß eine, was sie tut!
