Kim Gordon, front line guitarist and vocalist from the iconic band Sonic Youth, is presenting her current exhibition “The Noise Paintings” at John McWhinnie, New York till May 8th. The works shown are painted lyrics, words and to the artists meaningful phrases, using her personal mantras to create a collision of verbal and visual input. Her rock influence and lifestyle is surely to be seen in every piece, when spontaneous painting gestures fill and splash the white canvases and papers. Be sure to drop by if you’re in the area!

Mikael Kennedy Exhibition “Shoot The Moon” at The Chelsea Hotel, New York

Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art is hosting the upcoming exhibition of Mikael Kennedy entitled “Shoot The Moon”. The photographer will present a selected series of 500 Polaroids he almost obsessively took between 1999 and 2009, making us feel his adventurous experiences and showing travels throughout the world during that time. He not only strongly established a passion for capturing everything around him, but especially developed a love affair to Polaroids, experimenting with the many possibilities and unique outcomes the media allowed him to have.

“In 2002 I was twenty-three years old. David Lamb and I were leaving the blood bank in Seattle where we went twice a week to make 45 dollars selling our blood…I sold my blood to buy expired Polaroid film where I could find it, and when that didn’t work I would steal it… We had no jobs, we had no plan…..I told David that this was to be the plan: No plan. I said we’d ‘Shoot The Moon.’ Like in the game of Hearts, you collect all the bad cards you win, you get almost all of them but not all, you lose. So I started collecting my cards in the frame of a Polaroid.”- Mikael Kennedy

After releasing numerous books and being recognized within the fashion photography industry, he now is ready for his first solo exhibition in New York. The exhibition will run from April 14th to May 2nd at suite 524 of The Chelsea Hotel with a reception starting at 6PM- so be sure to check it out if you are in the Big Apple!

“Younger Than I’ll Be” Exhibition at BAMart New York

Starting on April 7th, BAMart will show the Skye Parrott curated exhibition “Younger Than I’ll Be“, not only presenting works of Skye herself but also of Nan Goldin among many others. The collection of photographs will show the New York of the 80’s and early 90’s- also if not all the works are dated in those years. It is a memorial to her childhood and the experiences she felt when thinking that you own the world, that she “owned” New York. Wanting to portray the unrestricted abandon of youth, the feeling of being recklessly in love and the haziness to catch a memory, Parrott has gathered some of the best in the craft to explain all that what is often hard to put in words. The show will run till May 23rd- check it out!

Rosson Crow “Bowery Boys” Exhibition

Since March 7th, we can see Rosson Crows “Bowery Boys” at Deitch, New York. The artist gives us her personal view on the evolution of Manhattans streets, in the last 200 years, displaying her talent on nostalgic large-scale paintings. Her frank, punk, post-gender attack is more personal than political, and more imaginative than expository; or in simpler terms, more badass. The urban oil pieces show us the world of underground art and the culture clashes of the Big Apple. The show will be on till March 27th, definitely worth a visit! Amazing talent, amazing woman!

Nasty Mondays BCN goes NYC

First, let us make a general introduction, on who or what Nasty Mondays actually is.  Nasty Mondays was invented 5 years ago in Barcelona, by our friends Max & Sören- local celebrities, mad minds, blonde lovers and tattoo addicts! With their fable to indie & electro rock, they started with a party series that didn’t exist like that  in the catalonian city before. Mondays at Apollo was a MUST. Constantly reinventing themselves, with new themes, bands playing live, different locations and becoming crazier each time, they have managed to establish their base within Barcelona, and have toured in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Holland. Now: they are hitting New York City on the April 5th at Griffin- you have made it guys! Stay tuned for when and where here or here!
