Toys: Barbie-Home by Miniio

For the first time we see something for the ultra-kitsch traditional princess toy Barbie translated into something contemporary, up-to-date and close to being part of the furniture frenzy. The dolls that we used to dress when we were little, in pink fluffy 80’s dresses, now also wear basics and love sunglasses. And this of course needs the ideal surrounding.

Rising from the eastern European lands of Poland, Miniio satisfies that minimalistic hype. The project run by “mums”, started out because they have three fantastic boys. But they dreamt of doll-houses and everything they would have wanted to get their next-life little girls. They take play seriously and therefore have created a somewhat miniature IKEA world, inspired but what grown-ups would have in real-life, translated serious into small.

Miniio produces everything by hand, paying attention to materials and details. Separated within their shop, you can buy all elements separately- not a cheap fun, but therefore surely something special for you or the mini-you’s.

“Life you’ve always wanted. Just 6 times smaller.”

Art: Inbox (12)

Inbox (12) is a new fanzine where you receive 12 postcards drawn and written by 12 different illustrators about their favourite city spots in their city.

Recommending special places, the art project distances itself from the usual travel guides and wants to re-create that long lost excitement of opening the mailbox and getting a beautiful postcard from your friends latest travel.

The current edition is dedicated to our beloved city of Berlin, which is the fifth city after Madrid, London, New York and Tokyo. The designers Ana Albero, Belinda Chen, Cristina Sitja Rubio, Danae Díaz, Judith Drews, Julia Humpfer, Larissa Bertonasco, Mario Wagner, Martin Haake, Mischief Champion, Silke Schmidt and Silke Werzinger were the lucky twelve to be featured.

All sets can be bought online here, for a sweet price of 10€ incl. shipping, so make sure to get your copy, supporting your city and supporting art collectives, of course.

The AutoWed Wedding Machine

Weddings and getting married could have never been cheaper. And lets just assume that this could be for real, and make all those shaky relationships be bonded forever. For a dollar or a pound, you can get a quick hitch, a couple of rings and a personalized certificate, making sure you can show your daddy a piece of paper, since that’s what might count for him.

Pre-nuptuals excluded, the AutoWed Wedding Machine features specially produced music for the event, a retro keyboard & display, a ring vendor and ticket printer. Of course its pink and of course we need to get one to get married again and again and again, anytime we want to.

Question is: What about the divorce? Neeeever.

Homewear: “Rise and Sigh” Bed Sheets

Martina Carpelan is from Finland. She is a product designer who also likes to mingle with interiors, graphics and unconventional concepts. She does cool things, just like the “Rise and Sigh” bed sheets, for which she surely has a great explanation: Rise and Sigh is a collection of revealing bed linen that plays with incidents often taking place in hotels. Different sleeping positions give different imprints on the sleepers’ body as the messages have been embroidered as a raised reverse image so they will appear properly when embossing your skin.

Simple but excellent. You can get your linens customized with any sentence wished, from romantic to absolutely dirty or enjoy the ones she pre-designed for you.

Be Your Own Souvenir!

Homeware: Good Girl vs. Bad Girl

Every once a while, we ask ourselves onto which side to settle!

This time, the showdown is settled between Glasgow artist David Shrigley and Californian babes Cidney Morris & Dallas Wand for Stone Cold Fox.

The first one takes pride in depicting humorous, inconsequential situations with a touch of bizzare. His view point is odd and at times almost left-handed and supports turning away from normality. Nevertheless, he manages to get his message across just fine: bad girls make the better company.

On the other side, Stone Cold Fox is the fortunate combination of one time Parsons buddies, who in their alliance fight for delicacy and the maintanance of true vintage values. They are apparently two of the few who still believe in purity and manage to make even the good girl look a bit more interesting.

The universe of artist Denise Julia Reytan

Jewels that tell stories, stories that need telling. This would be the perfect way to describe the magical world of Denise Julia Reytan, who amazes us through her body of work that stares our inner child straight into the eyes. It’s true that a true artist’s value lies in her ability to combine the all too familiar and then turn it into something intrinsically fascinating, something by the likes of which us regular folk wouldn’t even articulate.

Denise Julia Reytan does just that, and by means of her imagination we also get to enjoy this universe of booming colours and unlikely shapes. If you didn’t know about her before, now’s the time to step in.

Jewellry: ILikeYouAsAFriend cuteness attack

The two people behind this goldmine (literally!) run their business mostly online, although the up to now two existing shops in New York and Los Angeles tend to help.

Their jewellery pieces they produce are awfully cute, so damn cute that they could probably melt the hearts of all tough-love girls, ever. Just like all good things, they come in small packages, shaped like tiny baby elephants, Swiss cheese carousels and spaceships and are made of gold, silver or bronze.

Lovingly made in New York City. We like it. As a friend.
