Jenny Holzer Exhibition

On March 5th Jenny Holzer opened her first major exhibition in Gateshead, UK at the Baltic Centre For Contemporary Arts, containing elements from her 30 year career. The artist who began working as an abstract painter in New York in the 70’s, started using text and words to speak out strong statements may be it from marketing slogans to philosophical writing and political provocations. From posters on the streets of New York quickly moving to LED billboards on the Times Square and displaying at festivals like the Venice Biennale, Holzers work boomed. The very personal exhibition features paintings, sculptures and of course her magnificent LED installations showing essays, poems and creative writing will be open to the public until May 16th. If you are near, jump into the colourful world of Jenny Holzer, that literally speaks for itself!

Crafts for a Cause – Haiti Fundraise

Natalie Portman

Binki Shapiro (of the band Little Joy- where by the way our all-time-hottie Fabrizio Moretti/ The Stokes drummer) has gathered some of the most important players of our pop culture to contribute with an object, to raise funds for Haiti. From a tote bag by Liv Tyler and her crew, a camera from Drew Barrymore, skateboard from Kevin “Spanky” Long or a sweater from Kate Nash and a song produced by Mark Ronson. We like the fact that it not only a typical “lets-do-a-t shirt” thing! “Crafts For A Cause” will auction the donations online between March 15th (8AM) and March 27th on Bidding For Good. Keeping the spirit of helping Haiti alive, the proceeds will go to the Haiti-based humanitarian organization Artists for Peace and Justice, founded by Paul Haggis. And to make it possible for some of you too, the bids range from $15 to $5,000.

Paul Hamy Exhibition at PIGALLE

Another Pain O choKolat (POK) & PIGALLE production: last Saturday, March 6th, our Parisian friends brought to life Paul Hamy’s first exhibition directly at the PIGALLE store. Together with Stéphane Ashpool (PIGALLE owner & POK co-founder), they welcomed the smiling crowd together, since Paul Hamy is one of the Pain O choKolat founders too and of course a forever-la-famille-member.

The exhibition “CHAPEAU, CHIMÈRE et FORME” (“Hats, Chimeras and Shapes), was decorated throughout the entire store. The two shop’s windows were occupied by two huge pieces suggesting a man with a top-hat trying to escape, which looked absolutely killer. The hat collection, animal face rings (made out of gaffer tape, a technique Paul calls “scochin’”), zoological shaped lampshades and metal wire sculptures like “The patient woman” and “The man falling” could be seen throughout the beautiful shop.  The exhibition will go on till Sunday, so be sure to pass by! The hats will stay for sale at PIGALLE. We love his talent and say congr-hat-ulation Monsieur Hamy!

“Gudrun Kemsa und Studierende” Exhibition

Gudrun Kemsa und Studierende” is the next exhibition starting on Friday, March 12th at Galerie Schuster in Berlin. The great photographer and video artist, will not only show her own work, like“Choreographien”, but is also featuring the work of 7 of her students coming from Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld, where she regularly teaches photography. The students have focused on social and cultural themes, portraying them in separate photographic series. Among them we can find our friends Nicola Tauscher and Ajdin Pajevic, which will show their view on the stereotypes of the party world. The fakeness of the artificial surroundings, where people put on masks to survive, takes up the main role of their series.

Check out the vernissage on March 12th, from 6-9PM @ Galerie Schuster, Berlin, and see some of the work after the click! Read more »

Bring the Noise at Tate
