Spencer Tunick, ein Mann der mit seinen Arbeiten, definitiv die Welt bewegt. Vor einiger Zeit haben wir sein letztes Projekt in Sydney vorgestellt, welches für die Rechte unserer homosexuellen Gemeinde sprechen sollte. Nun hat er ein neues Projekt, bei dem er unsere Hilfe braucht. Naked Sea-Israel Project heißt es und beschäftigt sich mit der Thematik, dieses besonderen Stückchen Landes. Es ist der tiefste Punkt der Welt, der gleichzeitig so salzhaltig ist, dass dort kein Leben wächst.  Außerdem verbindet das Wasser drei Menschengruppen: Israelis, Palästinenser & Jordanier. Mit diesem Projekt sollen nicht nur Mensch zusammengebracht werden, dessen Länder sich teilweise bekriegen, sondern soll vor allem auch auf die See aufmerksam machen, die langsam, aber sicher entschwindet. Ari Fichter, ist ein guter Freund und Supporter von Spencer Tunick und hat sich diesem Projekt angenommen.

The New York based photographer Stéphanie de Rougé, usually works at the documentary photography section of The New York Times. Now she has captured a lovely series entitled “In Your Fridge”, showing what people actually carry and treasure within those cold cabins.

“From Paris to New York, I opened more than 45 fridges and discovered quite amazing worlds.”

Gemeinsam mit der Stiftung für Kunst und Kultur präsentiert das deutsche Museum Villa Schöningen in ihrer Frühjahrsausstellung die frühen Werke von Andy Warhol. Vom 3. Mai bis zum 24. Juli 2011 sind Zeichnungen, Collagen und Serigrafien aus der Sammlung Marx und von weiteren privaten Sammlern zu sehen.

Der Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung wurde auf die 1950er Jahre gelegt. Da betätigte sich Warhol zunächst sehr erfolgreich als Werbegrafiker für Magazine wie Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue oder die Sonntagsbeilage der New York Times. Er erstellte zu dieser Zeit die verschiedensten Zeichnungen, ob Gesichter, Katzen, Pflanzen, Vögeln oder auch Insekten. Vor allem schaffte Warhol immer wieder Portraits von Schuhen, denen er bestimmte Charaktere zuordnete. Weiteres Lieblingsmotive waren junge Männer, die er mit wenigen Strichen in ruhigen Posen festhielt.

Andy Warhol verwendete Kugelschreiber und Tinte oder belegte Seiten mit Blattgold. Viele seiner Zeichnunge wurden gedruckt und nachkoloriert, nicht nur von Warhol selbst, sondern auch von seinen Freunden. Daneben experimentiert der Künstler mit einem einfachen Umdruckverfahren, bei dem auf ein getuschtes Originalblatt auf Aquarellpapier gelegt wird, so dass ein zweites „gedrucktes Original“ entsteht, das beliebig oft reproduzier- und veränderbar ist.

Von Zeitgenossen teils als kommerziell gescholten, nehmen die frühen Arbeiten vielmehr einiges vorweg, was Warhols späteres Werk auszeichnete: die Experimentierfreude mit mechanischen Verfahren, der Rückgriff auf Bildvorlagen und das Serielle.

“I Am Not An Artist” is a working in progress project commissioned by the Escola Superior de Disseny in Barcelona, starting up with 56 animated GIF’s, directed by Johnny Kelly and Matt Cooper, which intend to show the world of nonstop design workers.

Aiming to grow to be a platform on which young designers and creatives worldwide participate, they invite you all to submit your works and be part of this awesome result.

MOCA-Museum of Contemporary Art

Als erstes großes U.S. Museum, zeigt das MOCA in L.A. eine Sammlung an Arbeiten von den bedeutungsvollsten Streetartkünstler unserer Zeit. Kuratiert wurde ” Art in the Streets” vom neuen MOCA Direktor Jeffrey Deitch, außerdem Roger Gastman und Aaron Rose. Die Ausstellung zeigt die weltweite Entwicklung der Streetart von den 70igern bis ins Heute. Kernstädte der Ausstellung sind NYC, L.A., San Francisco, London und Sao Paulo. Es werden von Gemälden, bis hin zu Skulpturen, interaktiven Installationen und gemischten Medien Präsentationen, die Arbeiten der meist gefragtesten Künstler gezeigt.

Was ist der “absolutely most cheesy place to be” für ein Date?? Der Minigolf Platz natürlich! Berlin XBerg bietet im Görlitzer Park nun genau so einen an! Aber es ist nicht irgendein Minigolfplatz! Nein, die Macher haben sich was einfallen lassen! Schwarzlicht ist das Stichwort! Das Künstlerkollektiv Sinneswandeln hat sich 5 Räumen angenommen und sich auf 18 Bahnen komplett ausgetobt. Eine fantastische Unterwelt wurde geschaffen… Reservierung sind dringend empfohlen!

AeP creatif aka Amor et Psychosis. Ein Tanzduo der anderen Art. In Berlin kennt man sie schon lange und in der Tanzszene sind sie nicht mehr weg zu denken. Hyung-Jung “Honji” Wang und Sébastien Ramirez, sind Tänzer & Choreographen und haben sich in Berlins Hip Hop Szene 2004 getroffen. Seit dem sind sie auf erfolgreichen Streifzug duch die Tanzwelt.

2009 gewinnen sie in Osaka, Japan beim, “Dance Delight” Contest einen special Jury Award. 2010 gewinnen sie den Publikums Preis für die best Choreografie, bei der international Choreography Competition “No Ballet”.

Hier in Berlin eröffneten sie mitunter den creative space MADE letztes Jahr und wer bereits in den Genuss kommen konnte den beiden beim tanzen zu zusehen, hat verstanden, dass die Liebe zum Tanz und zueinander neue Welten schaffen kann und Tanzbewegungen auf eine neues Level gebracht werden. Sie nehmen ihre Umgebung auf, sie arbeiten mit dieser und vor allem ist ihr Tanzstil nicht zu kategorisieren.

Nun haben sie endlich alles zusammen getragen und eine Website kreiert: AeP creatif .

Rania Matar ist Fotografin, kommt ursprünglich aus dem Libanon und lebt seit den 80igern in den USA. Sie ist Mutter von vier Kindern und beschäftigt sich in ihren Arbeiten meist mit Frauen und deren Problemen. Ihr aktuelles Projekt nennt sich “A Gril and her Room“, als Mutter einer Teenager Tochter hat sie die Periode zwischen noch “Mädchen” sein und zur “Frau” werden versucht aufzugreifen, indem sie sie an dem privatesten Ort für ein solches Mädchen fotografiert hat, nämlich das eigene Zimmer. Rania Matar ist gereist und hat die verschiedensten Mädchen/Frauen im Nahen Osten, Haiti, USA und Mexiko fotografiert. Die Kompositionen der Bilder und die dazugehörigen Bildinhalte erzählen Geschichten, zeigen Meinungen, Charaktere und Leidenschaften. Ein tolles Projekt, womit sich wohl jede Frau irgendwie identifizieren kann!

The 8th of April is celebrated worldwide as the “Romano Dives” – the international day of Roma and Sinti as it is the anniversary of the first international congress of the Roma-Nation which took place in London in 1971, where the Romani Union was founded. It was the first (and Roma have been in Europe for over 500 years) organisation founded by Roma that was accepted by the ONU.

I want to say this.. The discrimination against Roma and Sinti began 500 years ago when they arrived in Europe. It is nothing that developped, nothing understandable. It is the pure greed and racism of Europe that put this people through slavery, banishment and inacceptance which reached its peak in Porrajmos, the holocaust of the Sinti and Roma during the third Reich. More than 1,000,000 Roma and Sinti died in the concentration camps of the NAZI-Regime.

Instead of getting better, the situation of Roma and Sinti today seems to become worse and worse, especially in the past 20 years we have observed an exorbitant expression of intolerance and segregation. France deported the Roma. Italy was so nice to provide them with “camps” outside of the cities, close to garbage dumps or any other detrimental and environmentally unacceptable places. The situation of the Roma in Italy is absolutely equivalent to the system of Apartheid and I am happy the ERRC (European Roma Rights Center) has also officially declared it as that.

The Problem is, that even though multiple european countries have (finally) accepted the Roma as a minority, meaning as part of their nation, discrimantion, hate and racism have not stopped, only gotten worse. I want to remind you of February 4th 1995 when four Roma men where brutally murdered in Austria because of their ethnic affiliation, of the Roma and Ashkali in Kosovo who were raped, murdered, banished and terrorized by albanian extremists after the arrival of the NATO – and KFOR troops in Kosovo who only watched in silence, when their houses were burnt down. Over 20.000 houses in 75 villages were destroyed and european institutions have thus far rebuilt 200, leaving thousands of Roma, Sinti and Ashkali homeless and exposed to albanian racist terrorists.

I wonder how many people outside of Europe actually know who those people are and how many people in Europe use the term “Roma and Sinti” instead of just calling them “Zigeuner” “Tigan” or any other word that is equivalent to the word “Nigger”.

I also wonder how many Sinti or Roma know about this day and how many of them, who are actually in a position to contribute to this day and make it a much more known event, are ready to admit that they are a Sinto or Roma.

The aim is to integrate Roma and Sinti into their national laws and to assimilate them.

I wonder how that is going to work, when the countries they live in deport them to who knows where and tell them to go home.. but sorry France, Hungary, Romania, Italy.. where does a NOMAD go when being told to go home???!!!

I understand that introducing a day like this might be helpful to striking awareness of the issues Roma face all over the world but am I too naive to ask for education? Educate the world about our people first, educate the Roma, educate the Sinti, stop portraying them as Europe’s BIG DANGEROUS PROBLEM, stop denying how many of them died in the holocaust and stop selling the romantic Esmeralda type of sexy gypsy lady. Stop allowing any douchebag with no place to live to call him/herself a gypsy and think it’s cool. Start a programme within the Ghettos to teach Roma and Sinti the tools to help themselves. Rich, successful, assimilated Roma and Sinti, stop denying you are one just because Europeans told you to be ashamed of our beautiful culture. Start helping your own people realize that, yes, they do have a problem and keep the EU out of it. No one without any genuine interest in helping Roma help themselves should be part of this International Day of Roma and Sinti.

This day should be about true integration and respect towards cultural diversity.

We’re all familiar with the endless list of reality shows that have taken over the attention of the stupid, or those who just need some basic evening distraction. From Jersey Shore, to The Hills, The City, The Osbournes, Viva La Bam or Life of Ryan, there is really something for each one of you out there. Mostly trashy of course.

But here is something a little different. How about a reality show based on the stuggle of being a musician in Manhattan’s Lower East Side hipster neighbourhood?

This is what Jimmy Lloyd Productions has started, with a series entitled “The Scene L.E.S.” which is now running on NBC. The good thing for all non-Americans: you can also see it on their Vimeo channel.
