Susan Anderson has captured the documentary portrait series, High Glitz: The extravagant world of Child Beauty Pageants.  The artifical beauty of the American girls are captured at the height of their performance- hours of preparation, tons of make-up, and somewhat empty children’s eyes are looking into the honest camera. The strange microcosm was held in pictures and was published in a book, giving a close-up and intimate look on the subject and showing the turn of society’s obsession with youth, beauty, fame and fortune.  Each Year more than 100,000 children under the age of 12 participate in U.S. child beauty pageants, which are becoming a billion-dollar industry. Susan Anderson has greatly managed to show the facades of the glossy perfect barbie dolls, respecting them as adults, for which they feel to be. eVe in every form and figure- we are fascinated about this!

After the exhibition launch on March 13th in Tokyo and the t-shirt designed for the ocassion by Stless which will be released in April 2010, OHWOW now provides the book with images displayed at the show. “Now I Remember” brings together eight different personalities while each of them shares their own photos captured with their cell phones. Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long and Jen “JR” Reynolds are under these few, that give us a glimpse into their daily life and surroundings while highlighting the spontaniety that each second carries. The introduction was made my Mark Gonzales, followed by 132 amazing pages which can be bought here!

Superheroes are invading Paris! After touring through Europe with the Toygiants exhibition for the past years, Daniel & Geo Fuchs are now showing their awesome work at the Galerie Magda Danysz from March 27^th to May 15^th 2010 in Paris. Collaborating with the immense (more than 10,000!) and outstanding toy collection of our Düsseldorf-family-member Selim Varol they began shooting Batman, Superman and Hulk. It developed into a complete 216 page book, bringing the vinyl “miniatures” into life! Toygiants wants to underline the strong impact that toy figures can have and their ability to blur the line between reality and fiction- which they definitely succeed with. In Paris they will be showing both pieces that we know from the book, but also brand new works that we are very eager to see! We are fans, and you should try and check it out if you are in town!

Fashion and celebrity photographer Tom Munro, has now launch his first self-titled book, which contains his best celebrity portraits. The 240 pages, with an introduction of Madonna herself, contains images of some of the biggest names of our today’s pop culture like Courtney Love, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dustin Hoffman, Ashton Kutcher, Isabella Rossellini, Johnny Depp, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Scarlett Johansson, just to name a few. The photographer who started shooting in the 1990’s, also opened his exhibition on the same evening, with prints being sold to raise money for African charities ‘Raising Malawi’ and ‘M.E.A.K. (Medical and Educational Aid to Kenya)’. The exhibition will go through March 13th 8445 Melrose Place in Los Angeles. Big up!

After reporting about The Selby last week, when our man Jay from BKRW interviewed him exclusively in his temporary home in Colette’s shop window, he now reveales a sneak peak from his new book “The Selby Is in Your Place”. The book based on the cribs of many influential creatives from around the globe, features the personal spaces of Dangerous Dan, Lesley Arfin, Karl Lagerfeld and Oliver Zahm among many many others. Todd Selby gerade in aller Munde, weil er für fast eine Woche im Schaufenster des Pariser Stores Colette gelebt hat, um sein neues Buch “The Selby” zu promoten. Ab Mai kann man das Buch kaufen, er befasst sich mit Personen, die er interessant findet und sie in ihrem eigenen persönlichen Raum fotografiert. Jay vom BKRW Magazin hat ihn in Paris besucht und ihm einige Fragen gestellt.
